Liisi Vaht just made her ONE Championship grappling debut against Natsuki Takamoto at ONE Friday Fights 60 on April 26th, 2024 and she delivered some really impressive results in the first match of the night. The two women started out battling in the clinch but it wasn’t long before Vaht pulled guard explosively, bringing Takamoto down with her. She went for an armbar but as Takamoto pulled her arm free, she transitioned to K guard and started to attack her legs instead. Takamoto was able to escape again but Vaht took advantage of the scramble and latched on to a really tight guillotine as Takamoto came up on top.
Vaht was squeezing for the finish and was awarded a catch for her efforts, but Takamoto was able to hang on and escape when Vaht tried to use it to return to standing. Vaht pulled guard immediately though and she started to work on another leglock attempt, but Takamoto sat down and defended much earlier this time. Vaht managed to catch an ankle and started cranking on an ankle-lock, but she didn’t have enough control of Takamoto’s hips to find the finish there. She used it to come up on top and secure a front headlock, before switching to a kimura grip when Takamoto sat down and diving over her guard.
Takamoto turned into her to defend again but Vaht was a step ahead once again, transitioning effortlessly into another armbar attempt. Takamoto tried to stand to escape but it was too little, too late as Vaht was able to fully extend her arm and get the tap. Liisi Vaht relentlessly hunted for the finish from the start and it was a seriously impressive performance in the results of ONE Friday Fights 60. She moved to 1-0 in the ONE strawweight division and although there isn’t currently a champion in that weight class, Vaht made a great case for her to get a shot at some of the elite grapplers at that weight like Tammi Musumeci and Bianca Basilio.
