Popular podcaster and veteran grappler Lex Fridman has just been awarded the first degree on his BJJ black belt by both Rick and Phil Migliarese at Balance Studios in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While Fridman’s tastes in podcast guests has always been eclectic, he has interviewed several top figures in the BJJ world throughout the time he’s been doing it. He’s an experienced practitioner in his own right and has even competed multiple times during his journey through the belt ranks, so he’s always been able to give great insight when speaking to elite competitors.
Fridman has able to give the community several fantastic and newsworthy moments during his time as a podcaster, like when John Danaher first spoke out publicly about the breakup of the Danaher Death Squad. He’s sat across from some of the biggest names in the sport on several occasions now, including one of the greatest BJJ competitors to ever step foot on the mats; Roger Gracie. He’s also managed to generate great moments opposite MMA legends too, like when Georges St-Pierre explained exactly how he would have fought Khabib Nurmagomedov if the two ever met in the octagon.
He’s naturally a very inquisitive and curious person, so he makes for a great interviewer and often gives great opinions himself too. Lex Fridman spoken publicly about a myriad of different topics over the years, including which BJJ belt he found hardest to earn during his journey to black belt. Now the days of changing belts regularly are behind him as he’s been a black belt in the martial art for quite some time, but he’ll still be given degrees on his belt over time.
The news that Lex Fridman was promoted to first degree black belt in BJJ was announced in a post to his official Instagram account:
