Leandro Lo’s mother, Dona Fatima Lo, has just revealed that both her son’s image and the NS Brotherhood name are being misused by another individual. Lo dominated the highest level of BJJ competition for over a decade, winning the IBJJF World Championship 8 times across 4 different weight classes and the absolute division. He was one of the most successful BJJ competitors in the world, right up until he was murdered in 2022 at the age of 33. The trial is currently still ongoing, but Fatima and other members of the community around Lo continue to fight for justice on his behalf to this day.
Although Lo had an incredible career as a competitor; an important part of his legacy is the New School Brotherhood, or NS Brotherhood, team. Lo originally represented the PSLPB under Cicero Costha but in 2015 he left the affiliation alongside several other elite grapplers and formed his own team. That was the birth of the NS Brotherhood Jiu-Jitsu team and Lo was not only the leader, but an integral part of the competition team as well. That’s why it’s so sad to hear that the team’s name is apparently being used without his family’s permission, along with images of Lo himself as well.
Dona Fatima Lo revealed that her son Leandro and the NS Brotherhood team name are both being used without the family’s consent in a recent post to her official Instagram account (translated from the original Portuguese):
“Brotherhood founded by Leandro Lo in 2015, a name that Leandro has always lived up to Brotherhood and fought all these years for this team, all with lots of love, affection and blood. He died with that name tattooed on his chest. He was never about money and neither were we. Now those who never fought for this team, never represented, had not even trained with him for years, filed a patent and opened the company NS Brotherhood and always exploiting Leandro’s image. Let’s fight against this, in addition to fighting for justice, we count on the help of you who love Leandro. Thanks.”
