UFC 310 took place on December 7th, 2024 and Kron Gracie was facing off against fellow grappling wizard Bryce Mitchell on the main card. Given that Kron is one of the most accomplished BJJ competitors to ever transition to MMA and Mitchell is incredibly skilled in his own right, this looked like a match that grappling fans would love when it was first announced. Kron was coming into this off two decision losses and Mitchell was coming off the first knockout loss of his career, so both men had a lot riding on the result and a win would turn either one of their fortunes around.
Mitchell got the better of what little striking there was in the first round, but Kron pulled guard and the pair pretty much stalled out there until the end of the round. The second round had a similar story, with Mitchell winning the majority of the standing exchanges and another two guard-pulls from Kron. The second of them did have some success, as he was able to threaten Mitchell with a triangle choke and an armbar. Mitchell escaped though and he landed some heavy shots from the top as the round ended, winning the round with that final bit of action.
This meant that Mitchell had taken both of the first two rounds pretty cleanly on the judges’ scorecards and Kron needed to pull something big off. He tried to pull guard yet again but this time Mitchell was very clearly prepared for it, and he slammed Kron down to the canvas with authority. That gave Mitchell the chance to posture up and he started to land huge elbows, clearly knocking Kron unconscious as the referee raced to call off the fight. Bryce Mitchell got back in the win column with the knockout win, while Kron Gracie is now on a three-fight losing streak dating back over 5 years.
