Kairos Pro Jiu-Jitsu 2 took place on April 27th, 2025 and the results included the crowning of the promotion’s second champion at under 55kg. Their inaugural event was an excellent proof of concept back in 2023 and although they’ve taken some time away, Kairos came back just as good as the first time around. They stuck with the same format of splitting 10 competitors into two groups for separate round-robin tournaments and the winners of each bracket facing off in the final. They also stuck with the unique approach of featuring both gi and no gi matches; deciding which to use with a coin-flip before each match.
The lineup for their second event was excellent and although it underwent some last-minute changes, it was packed with top European grapplers. Ashley Bendle was one of the early favorites and although she put up a valiant effort in Group A, it wasn’t enough to stop last-minute replacement Rose El Sharouni from making it to the final. El Sharouni was absolutely flawless with two decision wins and two submission wins, including a very tight toehold finish over Bendle. El Sharouni was actually the only person to leave the group stage with a perfect 4-0 record so naturally she looked like she might run away with it.
Raquel Ferreira had a great year on the IBJJF no gi circuit last year so she looked like the early favorite in group B, but a very tough opening match with Libby Genge ended in a draw. That proved to be a sign of things to come, as Genge won her other three matches by submission and even got the fastest finish of the day with an Americana on Vivi Roustani. Ferreira also bounced back with a submission win but fell victim to a heel hook in her third match that actually left her injured and unable to compete further.
Genge had booked her place in the final against El Sharouni and given the significant difference in experience between the two, most people would have picked El Sharouni to beat the young brown belt. Genge put on an excellent performance and dominated the final match though, submitting El Sharouni with an arm-triangle choke and winning the under 55kg title with a 4-0-1 record. There was also a superfight shortly before that between Tommy Yip and Daniel De Groot that proved to be one of the most exciting matches of the day, as De Groot outscored Yip 5-3 after a lot of back-and-forth action.
