Jocko Willink has just promoted his daughter, Rana Willink, to purple belt in BJJ in an emotional ceremony surrounded by their team. While Jocko is definitely one of the most popular celebrity BJJ black belts in the world, he was also a competitor at one point as well. He still trains very regularly and even teaches at the academy that he owns alongside BJJ legend Dean Lister, Victory MMA and Fitness in San Diego, California. Not only is he still on the mats but he’s even spending plenty of time training alongside some of the best grapplers in the world like Keenan Cornelius.
Rana Willink is now following in her father’s footsteps in that respect and she’s actually becoming a pretty successful competitor in her own right. She was only promoted to blue belt a little over two years ago but she has been training Jiu-Jitsu since she was a child, just like the rest of her siblings. She’s just 23 years old but has already competed on several big shows, including multiple impressive performances on the Subversiv mats over the course of this year. Willink is a very well-rounded competitor as well, as she’s submitted tough opponents with a wide range of different attacks.
She actually had her most high-profile match to date just a matter of weeks ago, as she competed in a superfight on the grand finale of PGF World Season 7. That was another superb outing for her, as she chased the finish relentlessly and eventually submitted her opponent with a heel hook. Considering she still has plenty of time left in her competitive career, it’ll be interesting to see just how far Willink can go in the sport. The sky’s the limit really at this rate and as her profile grows, she’ll only continue to get bigger and bigger matches moving forward.
