JitsCast #56 features top Spanish Jiu-Jitsu competitor Ana Mayordomo, right in the middle of the best year of her career so far. Mayordomo has been quietly working her way through the colored belt ranks over the last few years and even made the decision to move to Kingsway Jiu-Jitsu to improve her skills further. That move proved to be an excellent one, as she has skyrocketed to the very top of the sport this year. Within the space of just a few months, Mayordomo has won two editions of ADCC Trials and two no gi IBJJF major tournaments at black belt.
Jits Magazine spoke to Mayordomo about her whirlwind experience this year, and she reflected on her journey in the sport beforehand. She explained how she discovered the sport and how the move to Kingsway Jiu-Jitsu came about, along with why she chose to make that move in the first place. Mayordomo also spoke about her early experience with Muay Thai, although she doesn’t have any intention of pursuing either Muay Thai or MMA in the future. Part of that is because Mayordomo has another career outside of martial arts, and she shared how she manages to juggle that with training.
When reflecting on her two gold medals from ADCC Trials this year, Mayordomo also shared her thoughts on the level of competition at each one. She’s one of just a handful of grapplers who have the ability to enter ADCC Trials in more than one continent, by virtue of having dual citizenship. That gives her the ability to assess the difference between the talent pools available in both Europe and North America. She also shared some thoughts on playing tactically in Jiu-Jitsu, and how difficult it can be to do that when you’re alternating between multiple different rulesets with only a few weeks between events.
