JitsCast #52 features a veteran of the UK BJJ and MMA circuits, Dominic Dillon. Not only is Dillon one of the most frequent competitors in the country over the last decade but he’s also one of the most popular, thanks to his unorthodox and exciting style. Although he’s a professional Jiu-Jitsu competitor, Dillon’s style of grappling is far more similar to catch wrestling than that of a traditional BJJ black belt. This is something that often works in his favor too, as it makes him a very difficult opponent to prepare for even for the very beat competitors in the UK.
Jits Magazine spoke to Dillon about his experience competing under a wide range of rulesets, including his breakthrough moment in 2018 when he won the catch wrestling world championship. He also recently competed in a Luta Livre event for the very first time, and he explained what he liked about the ruleset compared to Jiu-Jitsu events. Dillon then shared that his daughter competed alongside him at that tournament, leading him to talk about how competing with her has actually changed the way he competes too. Although some of that is down to maturing as a grappler and a person, Dillon credits a lot of his change to his children.
Dillon then spent some time talking about his MMA career, and what led him to leave that sport behind even though he was still fairly young. He revealed that he does still feel the urge to make a comeback even today, but grappling does at least scratch that itch for him to a certain degree. Finally, Dillon looked forward to his upcoming appearance at Kairos Pro Jiu-Jitsu 3; where he will be facing a mix of elite veterans like himself and top young prospects. Dillon shared who he’s most looking forward to coming up against, and why he’s looking forward to the unique format.
