JitsCast #35 features Gabrielle McComb, or Gabi, one of the top female Jiu-Jitsu competitors of her generation. Not only has McComb won several major titles in grappling but she’s also recently embarked upon a professional MMA career as well. She was preparing to make her debut in the sport for almost two years and ended up skipping the amateur phase entirely, turning professional immediately at the beginning of 2025. She won that fight at LFA 199 by submission in just over three minutes, getting her career off to an excellent start as she continues to look for fights on the regional MMA circuit.
McComb spoke to us about how her MMA career is going, and how long she’s actually been planning and preparing to make the transition. She also spoke about why she waited until now to make the move to MMA and where she sees her career going from this point onwards. McComb spoke about her desire to fight in the UFC, and spoke about her upcoming second fight with Cara Greenwell at LFA 213. Her opponent has a little more experience than her in MMA but as McComb explains, her vast experience in the highest level of Jiu-Jitsu can make up for that.
McComb also spent some time reflecting on the early days of her Jiu-Jitsu journey, where she shared the moment that she decided to pursue the sport professionally. She also spoke about her incredible success on her way through the colored belt ranks and her time spent training with the legendary Leticia Ribeiro. McComb then shared some rare insight into what it was like to make the transition from being one of the best brown belts in the world to competing among the black belts. She revealed how she was able to deal with not winning world titles immediately, and how other competitors should approach that same challenge.
