JitsCast #21 features the up-and-coming exciting competitor Katie Bochenek. Not only does Bochenek stepped on the mats under a variety of different rulesets, but she’s also done it while maintaining a very demanding job as a nurse. She has competed for a some of the biggest promotions around over the last two years, including the world’s leading female-only Jiu-Jitsu promotion; Medusa. Although she’s comparatively new to the sport with just 6 years of training under her belt, she’s already making waves thanks to her ability to sell a match and an athletic background that makes her a very difficult opponent to prepare for.
Bochenek was a competitive powerlifter during her time in college and she spoke about how that background has helped her Jiu-Jitsu career so far. She also spoke about the difficulty of balancing training for such a highly-competitive sport while also holding down a challenging job, and revealed whether there would ever come a time that she would give it up to pursue Jiu-Jitsu full-time. Bochenek also spoke about one of the most unusual experiences of her career so far, as she’s actually and a total of 4 matches in the Car Jitsu format and has even competed outside famous streamer Kai Cenat’s house.
The majority of our conversation focused on her upcoming appearance at Main Character Jiu-Jitsu 6, which is just days away at the time of writing. It’s a completely unique concept, as the match contains a special stipulation that comes into effect once a winner has been determined. After the Jiu-Jitsu match is done, the winner gets the opportunity to land three undefended openhand strikes to the face of the loser in a similar fashion to Powerslap. There’s a long history between Bochenek and her opponent Katie Laablalli that has led up to this grudge match, and she was willing to explain that all to us.
