JitsCast #18 features one of the biggest legends in Jiu-Jitsu, Beatriz ‘Bia’ Mesquita. Not only is Mesquita one of the most exciting competitors of her generation but she’s also one of the most successful to ever set foot on the mats. She has won an incredible 10 IBJJF World Championship titles, a record for women in the sport and joint-second for both men and women. Although she’s had memorable performances and big wins in major events all around the world, Mesquita actually decided to step away from the sport slightly while still in her athletic prime in order to make the transition to MMA.
Even though she made her professional MMA debut less than a year ago, she’s already gotten off to an incredible start in her new career. Less than 6 months after she had her first fight, she was moving to 3-0 with a perfect record of 3 submission wins. She has wasted no time at all and she hasn’t taken any time off, as she’s already preparing for her 4th fight at LFA 203. We spoke to Mesquita about how she has found the transition to MMA and how much the move to American Top Team has helped her to develop her skills as a fighter.
Mesquita spoke about her plans for the future, ranging from her goals in MMA all the way to a potential appearance at ADCC 2026. She took a little time to reflect on the Jiu-Jitsu career that she left behind as well, sharing some of the big moments that she experienced along the way to becoming the legendary competitor she is today. Mesquita also revealed whether or not she plans on ever returning for a run at an 11th IBJJF world title, and what type of superfights she would like to take over the next few years while she’s focusing on MMA.
