JitsCast #16 features elite competitor Elisabeth Clay, shortly before she faces a huge rematch with Brianna Ste-Marie. It’s a very important match for both women in fact, as it will be the third time that they’ve met and they each won one of their previous matches. That match will be featured on UFC Fight Pass Invitational 10 and although the card is stacked with some of the best grapplers in the world, it’s still going to be one of the highlights of the night. Their first match at Who’s Number One 20 saw Clay win a decision snd the promotion’s title, while their second match was a submission win for Ste-Marie at the IBJJF No Gi World Championship 2024.
Clay is an incredibly accomplished competitor even before this series of matches as well, as she is a four-time IBJJF No Gi World Championship winner and a six-time IBJJF No Gi Pan Championship winner. Each of those gold medals was won with an exciting performance, with Clay being known for an extremely high finishing rate for a grappler competing at the highest level. She was a top prospect in Jiu-Jitsu before she even reached this level too, and we wanted to talk to her about her journey in the sport and what it was like to train in Alaska at the start of her career.
Clay also talked about one of the most recent developments in her life, as she and her husband Danilo Moreira welcomed their first child in 2024. This didn’t slow down Clay’s competitive aspirations at all and she actually made a return to the sport less than 3 months later. She spoke about her successful return to the highest level and shed some light on how she was able to do that. Clay also looked ahead towards her upcoming trilogy match with Ste-Marie, and discussed the possibility of her defending both her Polaris and Who’s Number One titles against other opponents in the future.
