UFC Perth took place on September 28th, 2025 and the co-main event saw promotional veteran Jimmy Crute finish his fight with a brutal neck crank that not many people have ever seen in MMA before. Any neck crank is going to be pretty uncommon, as most fighters will do everything they can to avoid tapping to one. Given the amount of force that needs to be applied to actually put someone’s neck under threat of breaking, it’s mot every day that fighters get caught unable to escape one. The most common variation is essentially when a fighter locks up a rear-naked choke over the jaw and uses that to apply the crank.
That’s not quite what Crute did though, he opted to abandon any semblance of the choke and go straight for pulling his opponent’s head back by the jaw. He was clearly looking to take the back early in his fight with Ivan Erslan, as he was dragging him down to the mat and looking to get hooks in. He ended up in mount and when Erslan turned away to avoid strikes, fans got to see exactly what Crute had been hunting for. He reached under Erslan’s jaw and connected his hands, wrenching Erslan’s head back in a similar fashion to the classic WWE technique; the Camel Clutch. With no way out and Crute putting every ounce of strength he had into it, Erslan was forced to tap.
