Jean Silva and Bryce Mitchell will be meeting in a rematch very soon, but it’s going to be under submission grappling rules this time around. The two UFC stars fought under MMA rules the first time they met; almost a year ago at UFC 312. It was a pretty important fight for the featherweight division at the time, as they were both already veterans with some big wins on their resume. Silva is a knockout machine and Mitchell is a BJJ black belt with some incredible submissions in his arsenal, but the fight went very differently to how most people would have expected given their respective skillsets.
Silva had already won the first round pretty convincingly and was on his way to winning the second too; but a takedown attempt from Mitchell led to the fight ending early. He shot in and Silva stuffed the takedown, immediately locking up a ninja choke and squeezing hard to find the finish. Mitchell twisted and turned in an attempt to escape, winding up on his back but failing to get out of the choke. Silva put Mitchell to sleep in the end and got the win he was cruising towards already, putting an exclamation mark on what was already an impressive performance.
Now Mitchell gets an opportunity for revenge, as he will be facing Silva again at Hype Fighting Brazil on March 11th, 2026. A grappling match should theoretically favor Mitchell, but the results of their first fight suggest otherwise. The difference in ruleset does mean that Mitchell will undoubtedly have an easier time setting his takedowns up though, and he’ll be able to focus more on offense without the threat of strikes. This isn’t the only high-profile grappling match between two MMA veterans going down at the event either, as Jorge Masvidal will be facing Sharaputdin Magomedov as well.
Hype Fighting announced the submission grappling rematch between Jean Silva and Bryce Mitchell in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
