Top flyweight contender Jasmine Jasudavicius just got promoted to black belt in BJJ right after the highest point of her MMA career at UFC 315 on May 10th, 2025. She had already established herself as a threat in the division leading up to the fight, steadily climbing the rankings since she made her promotional debut in 2022. Jasudavicius was already 5-1 on the regional MMA circuit and after a win on Dana White’s Contender Series, she was given the opportunity to compete at the highest level of the sport. She then progressed to a 13-3 professional record before UFC 315 and was carrying a four-fight win-streak into the fight.
She was booked against former UFC strawweight world champion Jessica Andrade and there was a lot riding on the fight for Jasudavicius, not least of all that she was fighting in her native Canada. A win would have put her on the longest win-streak of her entire career and given that Andrade is a former champion, it was also her toughest test so far. She took full advantage of the opportunity in front of her though, and she took the fight to Andrade right from the start. She did well in the early striking exchanges but the tide really turned when she managed to land a huge takedown.
She started to rain down punches from top position and immediately worked to take the back when Andrade turned to stand up. Jasudavicius quickly alternated between hunting for the choke and landing more ground and pound, dominating the fight in the process. It didn’t take long for Jasudavicius to find the finish either, as she locked up the rear-naked choke and forced Andrade to tap. The crowd went wild and she immediately rushed to her corner to celebrate, being surprised by a black belt when she met them. It’s a fitting honour for getting a submission win over one of the greatest female MMA fighters of all time, and it’s clearly well-deserved.
