Jack Sear just became the first British grappler to win a ONE Championship match, as he managed to beat Shoya Ishiguro at ONE Friday Fights 136 on December 12th, 2025. Sear has already established himself as one of the top competitors in the UK and he was given the rare opportunity to compete for the promotion, with Ashley Williams being the only British grappler to do so before him. Like Williams, Sear was given a very tough opponent for his debut and he was coming into the match as the underdog on paper. Sear is a Polaris veteran and excellent guard-player though; so he was always going to be a challenge for Ishiguro really.
Ishiguro pulled guard early but Sear accepted bottom position, and that’s where he stayed for the majority of the match. He used strong frames to keep Ishiguro at bay and kept pummelling inside to threaten him with a false reap. Ishiguro kept switching to standing passing to keep his legs away from Sear but he couldn’t find his way around Sear’s guard either. Ishiguro tried to leap over Sear’s guard and into an armbar towards the end of the match but he couldn’t get anywhere near it, and that proved to be his best attack of the match. Sear had a few leg attacks throughout though and although he couldn’t score a catch, it proved to be enough for him to get the decision win.
