Submission Hunter Pro 92 is scheduled for July 28th, 2024 and the promotion has announced a great lineup for their 8-man tournament. There will be several single matches throughout the rest of the card leading up to it, but most of the attention will be on the $5,000 light-heavyweight tournament. Some great matchmaking has meant that there’s no clear favorite who looks poised to storm through the bracket, but there are some top contenders who are a little more likely to leave with the grand prize. The promotion has already announced the opening round matchups too, so every man already knows his potential path to the top.
The first opening round match is between Tyrone Gonsalves and Dylan Melton, a pair of equally entertaining grapplers. Gonsalves is a veteran competitor with a ton of experience and although Melton is much younger, the BJJ brown belt has already had some great results on the SHP stage. On the same side of the bracket, another interesting match will be taking place between Anthony Robinson and Who’s Number One veteran Husam Alabed. Both of these matches are tough to predict and realistically, any one of these four men might end up standing in the final.
The other side of the bracket will start off with ADCC Trials winner and top Australian BJJ competitor Ben Hodgkinson; who will be facing another talented young grappler in Pedro Rubim. The final opening round match features Lucas Norat, one of the top Gracie Barra black belts to emerge in the last few years. He will be up against very tough opposition though, as he faces New Wave Jiu-Jitsu product Abraham La Montagne. Not only is La Montagne known for his ‘Abe Lock’, but he’s also used it to fantastic success on the ADCC Open circuit lately. This half of the bracket is just as evenly-matched as the first, and Submission Hunter Pro 92 really is anyone’s game.
