Elite BJJ competitor Igor Tanabe is continuing his profesional MMA career with his 6th fight at RIZIN Landmark 10 on November 17th, 2024. Tanabe will be putting his undefeated record on the line against Marcos Yoshio de Souza at the event and although every fight is a challenge, Tanabe will likely be the heavy favorite here. Not only has he shown an improving striking game throughout his MMA career but more importantly, his grappling has made him an absolutely lethal opponent. Since he transitioned to MMA back in 2021, he has proven that he’s capable of submitting anyone at the very first opportunity he gets.
Tanabe only spent two fights on the regional MMA circuit in Asia before being signed to make his RIZIN FF debut, but he finished both of those fights in the first round. Despite spending less than three minutes in action across both of his fights, he was able to put on a veteran performance in his promotional debut last year and rack up another first-round finish. He then had another two fights for RIZIN FF in 2023 and he still hasn’t actually seen the second round in his young career, with his record now standing at an impressive 5 submission wins in 5 fights.
His next opponent is Marcos Yoshio de Souza, the older brother of RIZIN lightweight world champion Roberto Satoshi de Souza and a tough opponent for Igor Tanabe. Although Souza is not someone that should be overlooked, he’s also coming into the fight at 39 years old and after alternating wins and losses in his last 6 fights. Tanabe will undoubtedly be the favorite but Souza also has a much higher level of grappling than his previous opponents and will make life very hard for him. One thing is for certain, Tanabe has a huge opportunity here to continue his incredible run with a win over another impressive name.
RIZIN FF announced the news that Igor Tanabe had been booked to fight against Marcos Yoshio de Souza at RIZIN Landmark 10 in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
