The IBJJF Pan Pacific Championship 2024 took place across October 26th and 27th, 2024 and some of the best grapplers in the world made the journey to compete in the tournament. Nicholas Maglicic had an incredible performance, beating 6 opponents in order to win both the ultra-heavyweight and absolute divisions. With his double gold performance at the IBJJF No Gi Pan Pac Championship 2024 on the previous day, it meant that Maglicic had gone unbeaten across 10 matches in total over the weekend. He wasn’t the only double champion on the second day though, as Adele Fornarino put a gi on and beat 3 women to win the featherweight and absolute divisions.
There were other big names returning to compete after winning their no gi brackets, and the middleweight division in particular stood out as being stacked with talent. Cole Abate won gold there after beating Ariel Tabak in the final, although Tabak was able to earn a second silver medal in the absolute division. Roberto Frias added a gold medal in the gi super-heavyweight division to his collection, while the light-featherweight division was won by elite competitor Thalison Soares. Both Kanae Yamada and Nikki Lloyd-Griffiths returned in the women’s brackets, winning gold medals in the light-featherweight and medium-heavyweight divisions respectively.
