The IBJJF No Gi South American Championship 2025 took place from September 19th to 20th, 2025 and the event attracted some of the best grapplers from the continent. Pedro Alex emerged as the double champion in the men’s divisions, beating tough opponents in both the ultra-heavyweight and the absolute brackets. There were big names in all the heavier brackets though, as Rafael Trabuco and Iago Duarte both took gold at super-heavyweight and heavyweight respectively. Although there were plenty of fun matches and exciting finishes everywhere, Yuri Silva was the other notable competitor and he managed to stand on top of the podium at light-featherweight.
It was Vitoria Vieira who earned double gold in the women’s divisions, winning both the middleweight and absolute divisions. She beat heavyweight champion Eliza Vasconcelos in the final and medium-heavyweight champion Thaynara Victoria in the final of the absolute, completing an excellent run there. The only champion from the heavier division who wasn’t there was Izadora Silva, who won gold at super-heavyweight. Rounding out the most well-known female competitors to emerge victorious here is Caroline Brunacio, who won the lightweight division, and Barbara Souza; who was the featherweight champion. As always this was a great look at some of the talent emerging in South America and it’s likely that fans will see much more of all of the gold medalists in the years to come.
