The IBJJF No Gi Pan Championship 2024 took place from November 1st to 4th, 2024 and this year’s champions produced some excellent results. The tournament produced some memorable moments but undoubtedly the biggest of them all came from Elisabeth Clay. Clay won both the heavyweight and absolute division in order to become the double champion, something she’s done twice before already. What made the achievement even more memorable for her was the fact that she did so just 76 days after giving birth to her first child. It was a truly incredible feat that most women would never even consider attempting, so naturally she was the biggest star of the event.
Devhonte Johnson was the men’s absolute champion but he wasn’t able to take home two gold medals, as he had to settle for bronze at ultra-heavyweight behind Lucas Montalvao. He wasn’t the only man to come close to double gold though, as the absolute silver medalist Alehander Marianaro won a very tough medium-heavyweight division. There was one another champion who stood on the absolute podium too, as rising Australian star Nadia Frankland won the middleweight division before taking home one of the absolute bronze medals. There was plenty of other highlights at the IBJJF No Gi Pan Championship 2024 too, with some shock results in other weight classes.
Cole Abate won his first major IBJJF event at featherweight and at the opposite end of the scale, the super-heavyweight division saw Rafael Lovato Jr continue his incredible run of form at the age of 41. Abate wasn’t the only man who stood on top of the podium here for the first time, as Max Hanson also impressed on his way to lightweight gold. Everton Teixeira also continued his run of form with a gold medal in the roosterweight division. There were even more great performances from Natan Chueng and Jose Jurema, who won the middleweight and heavyweight divisions respectively.
Edwin ‘Junny’ Ocasio deserves a special mention too, as he made it back-to-back titles in the light-featherweight division while he gears up for another world title at the end of the year. His counterpart in the women’s divisions was Ana Carolina Lima, who shared the light-featherweight final with her teammate. Exciting veteran competitors Amanda Leve and Talita Alencar stood out by winning their respective divisions at medium-heavyweight and featherweight, while Amanda Bruse made a statement with a solid performance on the way to lightweight gold. The lightest female champion was Thais Loureiro at roosterweight, and the heaviest was Mayara Moreiro at super-heavyweight.
