The IBJJF No Gi European Championship 2024 took place from October 17th to 20th, 2024 and the results of this year has brought a whole new crop of champions. The only double champion was Aurelie Le Vern, and she beat some impressive names along the way to winning gold at medium-heavyweight and in the absolute. Anabel Lopez was equally impressive in winning the heavyweight division and she met Le Vern in the final of the absolute, but Le Vern submitted with an armbar to finish the weekend undefeated. The men’s absolute champion was Gabriel Almeida, but he actually had to settle for a bronze medal at super-heavyweight.

That weight class was won by the legendary Rafael Lovato Jr, who won the adult black belt title at the age of 41. Heikki Jussila put in some solid work to win a gold medal at ultra-heavyweight, before winning a bronze medal in the absolute. The other champions in the heavier divisions were Manuel Pilato and Sebastian Rodriguez, who won the heavyweight and medium-heavyweight divisions respectively. Although every division was tough, the middleweight division stood out as potentially the most stacked of the entire tournament. All four men on the podium are elite competitors but the top position was earned by Fabyury Khrysthyan.

Julian Espinosa and Yigit Hanay won gold medals at lightweight and featherweight respectively, while the light-featherweight division was won by last year’s IBJJF no gi grand slam winner Edwin ‘Junny’ Ocasio. It was Christopher Tran who gold in the roosterweight division, marking the first major title of his black belt career. There were plenty of big names in the women’s divisions too, with Brianna Ste-Marie winning the middleweight title. Julia Maele confirmed her place as one of the best in Europe by winning the lightweight division, and Raquel Ferreira won the featherweight division despite not coming in as one of the favorites originally.
