The latest edition of Jiu-Jitsu Con in 2025 was a big success, as the IBJJF managed to bring together many of the best grapplers in the world for a week-long celebration of the sport. From August 28th to 29th, several elite gi competitors got to work and put on a show for the crowd. Sebastian Serpa pulled off an incredible feat by winning the absolute division, even though he was competing at featherweight earlier in the day. He couldn’t leave with two gold medals though, as Israel Almeida won his weight class instead. The women’s absolute division was much more predictable though, as super-heavyweight champion Gabrieli Pessanha won the bracket.
There were big names everywhere though, particularly in the heavier men’s divisions. Rider Zuchi and Mateus Rodrigues won gold medals at heavyweight and super-heavyweight, while the ultra-heavyweight division was won by rising star Luis Oliveira. The women’s heavyweight champion was Melissa Stricker, while Kennedy Franklin came out on top at middleweight. Pablo Lavaselli also won at middleweight, and Keven Carrasco rounded out the most notable male winners at light-featherweight. The female champion at that weight was Ashlee Funegra, while Maria Luiza won the featherweight division and Janaina Lebre took home the lightweight title.
