The IBJJF Indianapolis Open 2025 took place on March 8th and 9th, 2025 and the tournament attracted quite a few exciting competitors. One of the biggest storylines emerging from the event came on the very first day in the gi, where Gregor Gracie made an appearance in the adult divisions despite technically qualifying for Master 3. He did more than just show up too, as he stormed to victory in two divisions despite facing some tough opposition. Gregor won the heavyweight division first and then became the double champion by winning the absolute, beating a fellow champion from another weight class in the final.
Rafael Silveira was the man who came close to double gold, as he stood in second place next to Gregor on the absolute podium after winning the medium-heavyweight division. Gregor also beat London Horn in the final of his weight class and although Horn had to settle for silver on the first day, he came back to win both his weight and the absolute in no gi. Beatrice Jin was the only other double champion at black belt who didn’t get any default medals, and she was in great form while winning both the women’s gi lightweight and absolute divisions.
Emilio Hernandez came away with a few medals from the IBJJF Indianapolis Open 2025 too, and his best work came in the no gi divisions on the second day. He won the lightweight division and took silver in the absolute there, but he also won a bronze in the gi featherweight division behind the eventual champion Pedro Dias. The final big name who stepped on the mat was Bruno Sena, and he had a perfect weekend in the lightest weight class available. Sena won the light-featherweight division on both days, beating two opponents in the gi and one in no gi.
