The IBJJF Curitiba Summer Open 2025 took place on February 22nd and 23rd, 2025 and it featured some of the biggest competitors in Brazil. The gi divisions are always busier than the no gi divisions in Brazilian events, but there was still quite a few good marches on the second day regardless. Vinicius Liberati walked away as the men’s double champion in ghe gi, winning tough brackets at super-heavyweight and in the absolute. Lucas Alves was the silver medalist next to him in his weight class, while Rider Zuchi occupied that spot in the absolute. That was Zuchi’s second silver medal of the day too, as he was beaten in the heavyweight final by Caio Paganini.
The medium-heavyweight division was particularly stacked with talent too, with Leonardo Lara winning gold while Lucas Gualberto took silver and Rafael Paganini took one of the bronze medals. The divisions at the opposite end of the weighing scale featured just as many elite competitors too, with Alex Sodre and Anderson Duarte winning gold at lightweight and featherweight respectively. The second day saw a few big names stepping on the mats for no gi; including Darlan Casaca, who won gold in the medium-heavyweight division. Iago Duarte won the weight class just above him at heavyweight, despite facing two very tough opponents in the bracket.
The women’s no gi division were even quieter at the IBJJF Curitiba Summer Open 2025, but Izadora Silva did win the super-heavyweight division and a default gold in the absolute. The women’s gi double champion was Ingridd Alves, as she beat all of her opponents at heavyweight and in the absolute. The middleweight champion, Larissa Martins, ended up winning a bronze medal in the absolute after losing to the very same woman that she beat in the final of her weight class. Maria Luiza also made an attempt at the absolute after winning the lightweight division, but she couldn’t make it past her first match there.
Marina Carraro actually suffered a similar fate in the absolute despite being the early favorite when she won the super-heavyweight division. The lighter weight classes were just as busy, particularly at light-featherweight; where multiple top competitors battled it out. Jessica Dantas took gold there by beating Brenda Larissa in the final, shortly after Larissa got the win over Barbara Souza and left her with a bronze medal. Alexia Arantes also made an appearance at medium-heavyweight and she did make it to the final, but she had to settle for a silver medal in the end after being beaten by Luana Soares.
