The IBJJF American National Championship 2025 took place on June 26th and 27th, with several of the best grapplers in the United States reaching the podium. There was only one double champion at black belt who had to beat opponents in both divisions, as Helder Junior won both the ultra-heavyweight and absolute divisions. Alexandre Manara was really close behind him though, as the pair met in both of those finals and Marianaro left with a silver medal both times. The most impressive performance of the women’s divisions came from Sarah Galvao; who won gold at lightweight and silver in the absolute.
There was some high-level battles in a few other divisions too, with the toughest men’s bracket taking place at middleweight. There were several top competitors there and it all lead up to a final match between Pablo Lavaselli and Alehander Marianaro, which Lavaselli won. There was a great final match in the men’s super-heavyweight division as well, with Paulo Merlin beating Kristof Szucs to take home the title. The most stacked women’s division was either at lightweight where Galvao won, or at featherweight where Taylor Polhamus beat some of the best competitors in the world to stand on top of the podium.
There was a few other divisions where top competition could be found too, particularly at men’s featherweight where Cleber Sousa won. The female talent was a bit more evenly-spread, with the roosterweight and light-featherweight divisions being won by Mariana Rolszt and Lavinia Barbosa respectively. Beatrice Jin was the middleweight champion this year and Aghata Fernandes also made an impression by winning a tough three-woman division at medium-heavyweight. It was Leticia Santos who came away with double gold in the end, winning the absolute after getting a default gold medal at heavyweight. All in all the IBJJF American National Championship 2025 was a success, with plenty of entertaining matches throughout.
