Honor Submission Challenge Italy took place on July 1st, 2023 and there were exciting results from start to finish of the stacked event. There was several great superfights booked for the event, but most of the attention was on the 4-man under 70kg grand prix that featured two ADCC veterans. There were plenty of fun moments throughout the preliminary card, but one particular submission stood out early in the night. Matteo Bittichesu hit a lovely armbar counter when his opponent decided to try and use a can-opener to pass his closed guard, finishing it almost immediately and registering the most impressive finish of the event.
There was plenty of action in the main card too and the duo representing Melqui Galvao Jiu-Jitsu put on some particularly great displays. Diogo Reis was up first and he managed to win a tough decision in his superfight, while his teammate Fabricio Andrey had the bigger challenge of competing in the under 70kg grand prix. Andrey won his first match by decision before putting on what was probably the best match of the night opposite Keith Krikorian in the final, winning the tournament with another decision. To cap a great evening of high-level grappling off, Jonnatas Gracie and Charles Negromonte took to the mats to provide some fireworks for the fans in the final superfight.
