Grapplefest 14 delivered some phenomenal results as several of Europe’s most exciting grapplers got together to battle it out on the mats, including three title-fights at the top of the card. First up were two women’s matches with inaugural titles on the line, starting with Julia Maele and Nadine Tavares in the under 65kgs division. Maele was patient and showed excellent leglock defense, leaping into action at the first clear opportunity to lock up a kneebar and force Tavares to submit. The second title on the line was in the under 70kgs division where Rosa Walsh aggressively hunted the armbar right from the start, eventually finishing Gabi Schuck with it.
The final fight of the night saw Eoghan O’Flanagan defending the promotion’s under 90kgs title against Jacob ‘The Hillbilly Hammer’ Couch. O’Flanagan won the title back at Grapplefest 12 in May, shortly before he catapulted himself right to the forefront of professional grappling. O’Flanagan punched his ticket to compete at ADCC 2022 by winning the European trials and ended up having a breakthrough performance at the event, going 2-2 and finishing in fourth place. He continued his fantastic run at Grapplefest 14 by relentlessly attacking Couch’s legs and although he couldn’t get the finish, he won a pretty clear-cut decision in the end.
