Gordon Ryan has just made his first statement to Kron Gracie in the latest stage of their public disagreement on PEDs in Jiu-Jitsu. The two men aren’t known for having much of a relationship at all, and the beef between them has only come about pretty recently. It started when Ryan shared a deep insight into his history with PEDs and explained his reasons for using them. Not only was he more open and honest than most competitors ever will be in that video, but he also defended his decision to use PEDs with a few statements that caught the attention of other people in the sport.
Kron was one of them, and he chose to speak out against Ryan’s claim that PEDs are legal in Jiu-Jitsu. It’s something that he mentioned specifically in the video, but he has said it multiple times in the past as well. This isn’t the first time that statements like that have drawn criticism from elite competitors in the sport and just like then, Ryan wanted to say his piece in response. Gordon Ryan shared his comments to Kron Gracie in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
“Talking to these people is like talking to liberals. You present facts, and they’re just like ‘no,’ lol. I say we are on Earth. They say we are on Mars. We just aren’t. They say steroids are illegal in (Jiu-Jitsu)… They’re just not. Like, they’re just… not lmao. 2+2 just isn’t 5. It’s just not. You can say you dont like them. You can say they’re not right. You can say they. should be illegal, but the FACT is that they’re just simply… not. Also, you’re gonna tell me the family hasn’t used steroids in (Jiu-Jitsu) and MMA for like the last 5+ decades? Places they were legal? Hahaha.”
His final point about the Gracie family is one that is definitely worth noting, as the majority of their biggest accomplishments in MMA and Jiu-Jitsu happened at a time when testing was non-existent. By the time that testing did start to be introduced to MMA, Royce Gracie famously tested positive for Nandrolone after his second fight with Kazushi Sakuraba. So not only is it a verifiable fact that at least one member of Kron’s family has tested positive for PEDs, but very few of the others have actually been subject to testing. Kron Gracie himself is regularly being tested for PEDs as an active UFC fighter of course, so it makes sense that he might personally care about Gordon Ryan being so public about his usage.
