Top female BJJ competitor Giovanna Jara has just been promoted to BJJ black belt in a promotion ceremony at Fratres Jiu-Jitsu. She’s been one of the most promising talents during her rise through the coloured belt divisions and she’s already had some experience competing against the best there is, most notably when she won ADCC South American trials in 2022. She looked as though she could make a big impact of ADCC 2022 originally but she went out in the opening round after getting a really difficult matchup against one of the top competitors in her division, Kendall Reusing.
It was actually pretty recently that she joined the team at Fratres Jiu-Jitsu, as she was one of 8 top competitors to leave Dream Art to join them. It’ll be interesting to see how she performs at the highest level of the sport on a more regular basis after this recent promotion, although It’ll take some time to find out the answer to that. Jara is currently pretty badly injured and will not be competing for a few months, although the fresh black belt will undoubtedly establish herself as one of the top female BJJ competitors in the world pretty quickly.
Giovanna Jara shared the news that she had been promoted to BJJ black belt in a recent post to her official Instagram account. Her original statement was made in Portuguese and an approximate translation can be found below:
“May 18, 2023 18- BLACK BELT
Today a new cycle begins in my life, it’s been 10 years waiting for that day, honestly, I have no words to describe this feeling. A week ago I suffered an injury that would totally change my plans. What a day!!!!! I’m still going to record a video telling you guys lol. These last few days have been totally remarkable, I had all the feelings that anyone could feel in the world, fear, sadness, relief, happiness, insecurities, euphoria, anxiety hahah anyway, everything is taken as learning and today I could see that I am much stronger than I think! Thank you Fratres Matriz for the beautiful family you gave me. Thanks to everyone who has been with me during this time. I have many and many people to thank hahah you are awesome. 2 months I’m back on the mats and competitions. GRATITUDE”
