Gabriel Sousa and Gianni Grippo just met for an excellent match during the main card of ONE Fight Night 28 on February 28th, 2025. It was just the second match on the card and ONE Championship did a great job of booking an exciting grappling battle between elite competitors. The first match was a Muay Thai fight that only lasted a little over a minute too, so fans didn’t have to wait long to see them meet on the mats. It was Grippo’s very first match for the promotion so he was looking to make a big impression, while Sousa was looking to bounce back from his unsuccessful debut against Mikey Musumeci at ONE 167.
It was clear that the match was going to produce plenty of action from the moment that it was announced, and that’s exactly what happened. Sousa already held three wins over Grippo from their past matches so he was the favorite on paper, and this match played out in a similar fashion to their past meetings. Sousa kept up a relentless pace and put Grippo under pressure, but he had moments of success himself and neither man was able to submit the other or score a catch. When the judge’s decisions were read out, Sousa was declared the winner by split decision in a pretty close match.
