Fury Pro Grappling 7 took place on May 27th, 2023 and several MMA fighters took on fantastic grapplers at the event. The promotion announced a fantastic lineup during the build-up to the event that looked as though it was sure to deliver fireworks for the fans watching, but a last-minute change made things even better than they could have imagined. When his original opponent withdrew from the match, Joe Pyfer was left looking for someone to compete against and an old foe jumped at the opportunity for revenge. His last UFC fight saw him knock out Gerald Meerschaert in impressive fashion, and Meerschaert stepped in on short notice to take the main event match.
Unfortunately for Meerschaert, he wasn’t able to get revenge on Pyfer and he lost a unanimous decision in the main event. One of the most exciting matches of the night was between Kevin Dantzler and JM Holland, with Dantzler using a beautiful armbar set-up to get the finish. There were several great straight ankle-lock finishes throughout the night too, with Rene Sousa and Andrew Kochel both submitting UFC veterans with them. All in all, Fury Pro Grappling 7 was a fun night of high-level grappling action and the MMA fighters competing all gave a good account of themselves in a different sport.
