The final professional grappling event of the calendar year has now wrapped up as Danielle Kelly took on Carla Esparza in the main event match of Fury Pro Grappling 3. Esparza actually stepped in on short notice to replace Kelly’s original opponent Rose Namajunas and although Kelly did win the match as predicted, it wasn’t as satisfying of a conclusion as it could be as the match was called off when Esparza suffered a deep cut above her eye. Shortly before that, the co-main event match up did not go as planned when Craig Jones actually ended up on the losing end of a decision against undefeated MMA fighter Sean Brady.
They weren’t the only two high-profile fights on the card however, as UFC veteran Donald Cerrone stepped up against Joe Solecki and much like his last grappling match at Combat Jiu Jitsu world championships, he was submitted with a rear-naked choke. Another of the B-team’s instructors Nick Rodriguez also competed against a UFC fighter, but he was able to get the win against Steve Mowry by also locking up a rear-naked choke after just a little more than five minutes of high-level action.
