Quintet 5 is scheduled for October 23rd, 2025 and the promotion has just announced the full lineup for the second team involved, Renzo Gracie MMA. Although the team carries his name, Renzo won’t be competing at the event and instead he will be acting as the coach. Similarly, the first team that was announced before this was Team Saku 39; who will be representing MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba. His brings an interesting element to the world’s biggest team grappling tournament as well, because Sakuraba is famous for his rivalry with the Gracie family and that includes a submission win over Renzo back in 2000.
The pair also had a rematch under submission grappling rules at Metamoris 5 over 14 years later, and now their third meeting will have to be played out vicariously through other competitors. Sakuraba’s son Taisei Sakuraba is going to be leading his team, while Renzo has also entrusted his team to the next generation of his family. It’s Renzo’s nephew Neiman Gracie who will be leading his team and he also stands out as one of their biggest threats too. Neiman has a ton of experience in MMA and has even medalled at major IBJJF events as a black belt too, so he’ll be very tough to beat.
He isn’t the only member of the team who is an MMA fighter first and foremost either, as Talisom Soares put together an impressive 11-2 professional record and Delsen Heleno had over 40 fights to his name before they both away from the sport in 2018. Veteran black belt Anderson Wesiley also brings a huge amount of experience to the team, while Diego Freire is only a few years behind him and has just as many matches under his belt. The Renzo Gracie MMA team doesn’t have as many established top competitors as some of their potential opponents but they each have an invaluable amount of knowledge behind them.
