Creating a brand new grappling promotion is always an incredibly difficult task and many promoters struggle to book any interesting matches with big names for their first few events. That hasn’t been the case for Place of Peace Invitational though, as they’ve been able to attract some of the best grapplers around right from the start. We’ve already featured their very first event with a superfight between Joao Miyao and Craig McDonald, but they really started to pick up the pace after that and have managed to book several elite competitors for their most recent events.
We previously featured a superb match between Gianni Grippo and Craig McDonald from Place of Peace Invitational 3, but this particular free fight friday is about another match that took place at the same event. The promotion’s founder Dez McDonald stepped on the mats to test his skills against Ruan Alvarenga, an ADCC veteran who is known for his exciting style. Alvarenga started out strong by landing a takedown early on in the match and he demonstrated some fantastic top pressure from that point on. After working towards an arm-triangle choke for the majority of the match, he switched tactics and attacked an armbar instead in order to get the finish.
