The IBJJF New Jersey Fall Open 2024 took place across December 7th and 8th, 2024 and the tournament attracted some of the best grapplers in the world. Plenty of competitors managed to come away with a pair of gold medals from the event, as there were quite a few entered in both gi and no gi. There were a male double champions one each day too, as Alexandre Manara won the ultra-heavyweight and absolute gi divisions while the no gi heavyweight and absolute divisions were won by Sean Yadimarco. Denise Krahn won the no gi absolute after winning the medium-heavyweight division in both formats, although she settled for a bronze medal in the gi absolute.
The women’s gi absolute division was won by Vannessa Griffin, although Krahn managed to beat her in the only match of their weight class. The only competitor that Krahn had to beat in the no gi absolute was top prospect Sophia Cassella, who couldn’t find a match in her regular weight classes unfortunately. As for the other weight classes; Sebastian Serpa won the gi featherweight division by beating Yuta Shimada in the final and Shimada won gold in the no gi version of that weight the next day. Both of them also won bronze medals in the gi absolute, a huge achievement for lighter competitors.
Leandro Lima was the final man on the gi absolute podium at the IBJJF New Jersey Fall Open 2024, winning a silver medal after he won another silver at lightweight behind Ethan Major. Tadiyah Danforth was the lightest champion at the whole event though, winning the light-featherweight division in both gi and no gi. There were a few big names competing in the no gi divisions exclusively too, most notably the lightweight champion Gianni Grippo. The middleweight division was won by Austin Oranday too, one of the most frequent faces that can be found on the podium of IBJJF Open events.
