Battleground Grappling 7 is scheduled for March 8th, 2025 and the promotion has announced three exciting matches that will get top billing on the card. They have brought together some of the best competitors from all around Australia, leading up to a title-fight to finish the night. The first match that has been announced is what the promotion call their third main event and it features an exciting clash of styles between two talented prospects. Josh Shipton is an excellent standing grappler with both wrestling and Judo experience, while his opponent Dominic Unamuno is a BJJ brown belt with a well-rounded skillset.
That will lead into the co-main event of the evening, which is an openweight challenge match between two tough competitors. Daiki Yonekura is a BJJ black belt under the legendary Yuki Nakai and he’s been one of the top lighter weight competitors in the continent for several years now. He even left with a silver medal in the under 66kg division of the ADCC Asia & Oceania Trials 2024, narrowly missing out on a spot in the most prestigious no gi grappling tournament in the world. Yonekura is facing a big challenge in the form of Josh Allsopp, an excellent brown belt masters competitor who trains at both Kumite Jiu-Jitsu and Art Of Jiu-Jitsu.
That’s when it will be time for the main event title-fight, as reigning under 90kg champion Kaya Rudolph will be attempting to defend his belt against Anton Minenko. This will mark the very first time that Rudolph has put his title on the line, as he only won it a little under year ago at Battleground Grappling 5. Rudolph is one of the top competitors in Australia right now and he’s had some success on bigger stages too, winning a bronze medal at under 88kg at the ADCC & Oceania Trials 2023. Minenko has also stood on the ADCC Trials podium and although he’s about 7 years older than Rudolph, he’ll be seriously tough opponent.
