Mat Assassin have put together a fantastic lineup of elite grapplers for their absolute tournament on January 19th, 2025. The promotion is still relatively new to the game, but they’ve managed to attract some impressive talent thanks to the grand prize of $10,000 that’s on the line. The first edition of their tournament took place last year and several tough matches, it was top Legion Jiu-Jitsu contender Breylor Grout who was able to walk away with the title. He’s returning to defend the belt this time around as well, but he has an opening round battle with Michael Mitri and with 3 more matches after that before he can leave with it again.
Either Grout or Mitri will then move on to face the winner of Fouad Shahin and Oleksandr Blekherov in the second round. The other name to watch on that side of the bracket is New Wave Jiu-Jitsu competitor Brandon George, who will be facing Ian Hagan in his first match. Max Welsh and Roy Runnels are the final pairing on that side of the bracket, and the winner will meet either George or Hagan to book their place in the semi-final. Although Grout is the favorite to make it to the final, things won’t be easy and his toughest match will likely be waiting for him there.
Elite wrestler Pat Downey is the top contender on the other side of the bracket, and Nijah Drawdy is the man looking to stop his run before it even begins. Either Pedro Moura or Hunter Dominiy will be waiting for the winner of that match in the second round, but there’s another notable name in this half of the bracket too. Veteran Ty Freeman is facing off with Armando Bejarano in his first match and if he’s able to win there, he’ll have another tough match before the semi-final. Either Colton Vaughn or Kristopher Rowley in will be the final man to make it to the second round, matching up with either Freeman or Bejarano.
The full Mat Assassin $10,000 absolute tournament 2025, including the full lineup above, will be available to watch as a PPV.
