EBI and CJJ Announce New Female-Only Grappling Event ‘Medusa’

Medusa is a brand new grappling event just starting out that will be female-only from start to finish and brought to fans by the minds behind EBI and CJJ. The event will be the perfect middle-point between the two rulesets as the Medusa grappling event will feature two tournaments on the same night, one for each version. Perhaps the most impressive part of the announcement that was made on the official Instagram account for the Combat Jiu-Jitsu World Championships, was when the promotion announced their vision driving the creation of this new promotion:

“Our vision is to make Medusa Female Only Jiu-Jitsu into what Invicta FC has become for WMMA, which is the most exciting female only MMA league in the world.”

Considering that Invicta FC has managed to play host to elite female fighters from all across the world, including BJJ black belts and Olympic gold medalists, replicating that kind of success would be a huge turning point for women’s BJJ. Historically, female grapplers have routinely been paid less than their male counterparts and it’s been notoriously hard for them to secure main-event spots at other grappling promotions. Now, the times they are-a-changing as more and more major grappling promotions are deciding to host female-only events on a regular basis to really try and draw attention to those competitors.

With this happening on a more frequent basis, and Medusa now looking to take the position as the premier grappling promotion for female grapplers, things have never looked better for women in Jiu-Jitsu.
