EBI 22: The Welterweights took place on December 14th, 2024 and the results featured several impressive performances from the incredible lineup of elite grapplers. The event was part of Jiu-Jitsu Overdose and as such, it meant that there was one space waiting to be won in the lineup. On the first day of Jiu-Jitsu Overdose, Carlos Calvo won the welterweight bracket at CJJ Mexico 3 and earned a place in this bracket. His appearance at EBI 22 was very short-lived though unfortunately, as he was drawn against the reigning champion from EBI 19 in the very first round and he had huge odds to overcome to make it any further.
Alan Sanchez came in as the champion and he demonstrated why he has that status by submitting Calvo incredibly quickly, followed by an EBI overtime win against Nathan Haddad and a beautiful armbar submission finish against Kevin Beuhring. The other side of the bracket saw Chris Wojcik hitting a straight armlock to beat Fernando Benitez in the first round, before he earned an EBI overtime win against Ernesto Rivera and another submission win over Davis Asare. The final was an incredibly tough match that went into EBI overtime but in the end, Sanchez was able to get the submission win there and become the first two-time consecutive EBI champion at this weight class.
