Diogo Reis has just been booked to make his promotional debut against Shoya Ishiguro at ONE Fight Night 29 on March 8th, 2025. Not only is this an excellent flyweight matchup but it’s a huge moment for ONE Championship, as Reis is a massive addition to their submission grappling roster. Reis is one of the best grapplers in the world right now and although he’s still very early in his career, he’s won more than most competitors ever will. He was a top prospect as a coloured belt and he did well at the start of his black belt career as a teenager, but it was 2022 that saw him break through.
That was when Reis stormed to victory in the under 66kg division at ADCC 2022 and at the age of just 20 years old, only a handful of younger people had ever won that title. He has been a permanent fixture at the top of the sport since then, and he repeated that feat by winning yet another ADCC title at under 66kg in 2024. There aren’t many competitors who’ve managed to win back-to-back titles and fewer still who have done it before their 25th birthday. Reis has beaten all of the best grapplers in the world at his weight and only has a handful of losses, an impressive record that he will look to extend in this match.
Shoya Ishiguro is not an easy opponent for Diogo Reis though, and he will be throwing everything he has at him at ONE Fight Night 29. Ishiguro is a ONE Championship veteran, winning his debut at ONE Friday Fights 55 by decision almost a year ago. He has gone from strength to strength since then and he actually got his first submission win in his next match at ONE Friday Fights 64. He’s won another match since then and currently holds a perfect 3-0 promotional record, making him the ideal person to welcome Reis as he makes his very first appearance for ONE Championship.
