Diogo Reis and Daiki Yonekura are both just one win away from securing a piece of history, as they will now be facing one another for the ONE Championship flyweight submission grappling title at ONE Fight Night 38 on December 5th, 2025. This will be the first time that they have ever crossed paths and although Reis has enjoyed a higher level of success during his career, Yonekura is an excellent competitor in his own right. He’s been steadily making waves at different events all around the world in recent years, and that’s likely why he’s been given a title-shot in his promotional debut.
Reis on the other hand has already made his debut, as he submitted top contender Shoya Ishiguro at ONE Fight Night 29 earlier this year. It was a flawless performance and, coupled with his phenomenal record in this weight class elsewhere, it’s no surprise that it earned Reis a chance to become a champion. He’s been one of the beat in the world for several years now, winning his first major title at ADCC 2022 When he was just 20 years old. ADCC 2024 saw Reis win the under 66kg division for a second time and he joined one of a select group of competitors to achieve that goal.
This will also mark an important moment for the promotion; as they will now be moving on from their former submission grappling king, Mikey Musumeci. Not only is Musumeci the last person to hold the flyweight belt but he’s the only person to hold it, and he never actually lost it in a match either. Musumeci was stripped of the title after failing to make weight for his final title-defense and the belt has remained vacant ever since. ONE have built up a solid flyweight division since Musumeci left for UFC BJJ, and now they will finally be crowning a new champion to reign over it.
