Diogo Reis just made an incredible promotional debut against Shoya Ishiguro at ONE Fight Night 29 on March 7th, 2025. Although Reis was the clear favorite coming into the match, it’s always difficult to step out and perform in a completely new environment. Ishiguro was not an easy opponent either, and he was coming into this with a perfect 3-0 record with ONE Championship. That made him the ideal person to welcome Reis to the promotion and put him to the test before he makes a run at one or more of the vacant titles. It was great matchmaking from ONE Championship, and it was clear from the start that this was going to be an exciting match.
Reis took the lead right from the start of the match and he was able to show off his incredible passing and positional control throughout. The finish didn’t come until just after the six-minute mark, but the sequence that led up to it was genuinely a thing of beauty. Reis was on top and looking to pass from the headquarters position when he saw an opportunity and dived over Ishiguro’s guard for a rolling kimura. He kept his grip despite Ishiguro’s attempts to break it and locked up a head-scissors to limit his movement. From there it was just a few seconds before Reis rolled over to torque the kimura hard and force Ishiguro to tap.
