Dillon Danis is reportedly a free agent after he has now been released from his contract with Bellator. It’s hardly a surprising turn of events really, as Danis hasn’t actually fought for the promotion for more than 4 years and only ever had two fights anyway. He made his professional MMA debut at Bellator 198 in 2018 and won that fight by submission in the first round, a solid win that was a good signal for his future. It took him over a year to get back in the cage again though and although he won his second fight at Bellator 222 by submission in the first round too, that was the last time anyone saw him competing in MMA.
Since then Danis has been more active on social media than he has in combat sports, although he started out the year saying all the right things. He originally said that he had plans for four or more fights in 2023, but as time went on it became clear that he wasn’t going to be anywhere near that busy. Although there have been plenty of fans questioning his inactivity, it was surprising to hear that even Bellator CEO Scott Coker was wondering if he actually wanted to fight.
As the initial weeks in 2023 went by and he withdrew from his only scheduled fight, a boxing match with KSI, it became that clear that Danis wasn’t going to be anywhere near as active as he had initially claimed he would be. As we approach the end of the year, his only appearance has been a recent disqualification loss to Logan Paul in a boxing match. He hasn’t had any professional MMA fights booked for quite some time and he even recently started campaigning for a UFC contract, so it seemed like his days with Bellator were numbered. Now the decision has reportedly been made to terminate the relationship between Dillon Danis and Bellator, allowing him to pursue any other combat sports offers he might have without restriction.
MMA journalist Ariel Helwani broke the news that Dillon Danis is now a free agent after being released by Bellator in a recent post to his official Twitter account:
