Dillon Danis has had to delay several important fixtures this month after reportedly suffering a ‘severe concussion’. It’s not uncommon for professional fighters of course but Danis’ issues actually stem from the unsanctioned brawl he was involved in at UFC 322 rather than an actual fight. It couldn’t have come at a worse time for him either, as it’s affected both his competitive career and a recent legal dispute. Danis was scheduled to defend his Misfits MMA light-heavyweight title against Anthony Taylor at Misfits boxing 23 on December 23rd, but that fight has been scrapped after he could not be medically cleared to compete.
Less than two weeks before that, he was supposed to be attending his deposition in an ongoing lawsuit. Danis is being sued by Logan Paul’s wife Nina Agdal in a case that is already more than two years old at this point. It’s moved fairly slowly and had hit a few delays in the process, including Danis’ previous lawyers quitting the case last year. Danis was originally sued for sharing explicit images of Agdal on social media without her consent; all during the build-up to his boxing match with her then-fiance Paul. Now the lawsuit is to be delayed by an undetermined amount of time, as Danis’ lawyers explained in a letter quoted by MMAFighting:
“My understanding is that defendant is in California seeking medical treatment for a severe concussion suffered as a result of a Nov. 15 brawl at Madison Square Garden, when according to newspaper reports, he was beaten by at least 10 individuals. As a result, defendant will not be able to attend his deposition on Dec. 9 in New Jersey.”
It remains to be seen exactly when the deposition will take place, and whether or not his title-fight will be rescheduled. Neeraj Goyat has stepped in to replace him against Taylor, but Danis still holds the Misfits MMA title. The promotion will presumably attempt to book his first title-defense against the winner of this fight, although nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
