Dillon Danis recently discussed the idea of competing in the UFC and although it’s something he’s previously seemed positive about, it now appears as though that door might be closing. At one point in time he was a top prospect over at Bellator and a UFC career didn’t seem too far-fetched; especially because of his strong relationship with one of their biggest stars, Conor McGregor. One thing led to another though and in the years that followed, Danis has become much more well-known for his antics on social media and in press conferences rather than any action in the cage. That changed somewhat this year, as Danis made his return to MMA and registered a submission finish in just 15 seconds.
Now that he seems to be taking his MMA career seriously again, it’s only natural that questions around his future have started to arise. During a recent interview with MMA legend Demetrious Johnson, Dillon Danis was asked about finally making that move to the UFC:
“I offered to be in the (Ultimate Fighter) house, which is actually crazy, and Hunter said that I was going to punch someone in the house and just get out and use it for clout or something like that. That was kind of like his thing. He was like, ‘Just tell him to get more fights.’ They’re scared that I’m just going to be too crazy. The whole Logan (Paul) build-up was crazy. I hit him with a microphone and all that bulls**t, and I think they think that I’m going to bring that to the UFC where it’s like a totally different game. That’s why this time I was a little bit more calm to show them I that I can be respectful and I can do that, but obviously when someone hits you in the nuts with a f***ing bottle, I’m going to throw a mic at their face.”
Given that Danis has been involved in a number of high-profile brawls over the years, it’s no surprise that the UFC would be cautious in signing him. It wouldn’t be the first time that the UFC has signed a controversial figure of course, but Danis doesn’t think that the UFC will take that risk on him:
“I don’t know, I think they’re just scared of me. Dana White even said, ‘He’s always getting in trouble,’ like every time I go somewhere I get into fights with people, but at the end of the day they’re UFC fighters, they have security, and I’m there by myself and they’re going to attack me, I’m going to fight back. I’m not going to just sit there and take it.”
