It’s truly a time where absolutely anything can happen in the combat sports world, as ADCC veteran Dillon Danis has now been booked to make his professional boxing debut in a fight against YouTube star KSI at MF x DAZN: X Series 4. The pair have already clashed in person during the weigh-ins for another event, leading to a brawl that started inside the venue and stretched outside into the parking lot before it was finally put to the end. While that altercation will no doubt serve as valuable promotional material during the build-up to their fight on 14th January 2023, there will be many fans who will doubt how real the interaction was now that an official fight between the two have been announced almost immediately afterwards.
Dillon Danis has a great deal more combat sports experience than KSI as a two-time ADCC competitor and a double-gold medal winner at the IBJJF no gi pans, but his competitive boxing experience is non-existent, and his striking experience is incredibly limited. The only time Danis has ever competed under rulesets where strikes were actually allowed was during his two-fight MMA career, where he stepped in the Bellator cage once in 2018 and once in 2019. Both of those fights lasted less than a round and although he won them both, he used his grappling ability to get the submission win on both occasions.
KSI on the other hand actually already has a 1-0 professional boxing record after defeating Logan Paul back in 2019. Not just that, but he also had two exhibition matches against Joe Weller and Logan Paul before turning professional, winning and drawing against them respectively. Earlier this year, he returned to exhibition matches and won two against Luis Pineda and Brandon Scott on the same night. While he has had five boxing matches so far, it’s worth noting that only one of his opponents had ever had a boxing match before meeting KSI and he had a 2-5 professional record.
