MMA legend Demetrious Johnson has just put in an incredible performance at the IBJJF Pan Championship 2024, winning a pair of medals in the tournament. Johnson is best known for being of the most successful world champions in UFC history with an incredibly long streak of title-defenses, but he’s continued enjoying a high level of success after that. He moved over to ONE Championship after losing his UFC flyweight title and immediately impressed the fans by winning their flyweight grand prix, before adding the ONE flyweight title to his collection of accomplishments.
Johnson has achieved pretty much everything that he possibly can in the MMA world and although he’s approaching an age that he might choose to retire at, he’s still chasing new challenges. He recently decided to make the transition to training in the gi and fell in love with it, making his competitive debut at the IBJJF Master World Championship in 2023. He competed in the Master 2 brown belt featherweight division and was practically flawless on the mats, winning every match in his bracket and leaving with a gold medal from the tournament.
Demetrious Johnson entered the Master 2 brown belt featherweight division once again at the IBJJF Pan Championship 2024 and he had some great talent behind him, as both Lucas Pinheiro and Bibiano Fernandes were in his corner. He won another gold medal in his weight class after another impressive performance and this time he decided to challenge himself even further by entering the absolute division as well. Johnson beat the odds by defeating much bigger opponents and although he couldn’t maintain his perfect record, he won a silver medal in his second bracket of the day.
