The IBJJF World Championship is returning for its 29th edition in 2025, and the promotion has just announced the dates and location for the tournament. It’s the world’s most prestigious gi grappling event and every year it attracts most of the biggest names in the sport. It’s an event where talented young prospects can break through to the highest level of the sport, while elite competitors have an opportunity to further improve upon the legacy they’ve already built. Every year there are hundreds of matches over several days and hours of high-level grappling on display for the fans watching either at home or in person.

This year the IBJJF will be hosting the event from May 30th to June 1st, 2025, with an additional day on May 29th if the registration numbers require it. They will also be returning to the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California and there will be plenty of room for spectators as a result. There will be several storylines emerging in every division over the next few months, and some of them have already started after the IBJJF European Championship last month. That was the first stop for competitors looking to win an IBJJF grand slam, so now there are only 17 black belts who are able to earn that achievement this year.

The next few months will see that number whittled down even further and by the time the IBJJF World Championship comes around, there will likely only be a few left who can win an IBJJF grand slam this year. That’s not the only thing to keep an eye on of course, as there will also be some of the reigning champions from the IBJJF World Championship last year returning to defend their titles. There are also a whole host of freshly promoted black belts who will be competing at the highest level of the tournament for the first time, and there are always some who can provide an upset.

The IBJJF announced the dates and location for the IBJJF World Championship 2025 in a recent post to their official Instagram account and the full event will be available to watch on FloGrappling, click here to subscribe and watch.
