The fight between Dillon Danis and Tony Ferguson is no longer going ahead, as the Global Fight League (GFL) has cancelled two entire events. They are just two of many fighters that have had a fight fall through as a result of this, as the grand unveiling for GFL will no longer be going ahead. The promotion was preparing to kick things off with a pair of events on the same weekend on May 24th and 25th, 2025; both stacked with veterans of the sport. There was a lot of buzz around the promotion even if many of their fighters were past their athletic prime, because there were some interesting matchups proposed.
Danis vs Ferguson was actually one of the first potential fights proposed by GFL founder Darren Owen, and it didn’t take long for it to become a reality either. The promotion clearly thought they were on to something with this matchmaking and they officially announced Danis vs Ferguson shortly afterward. There are talks ongoing about whether or not these two events will be rescheduled for later on in the year according to a report by MMAFighting, but there’s nothing concrete yet. There’s also no news on whether or not any individual fights will be held together, although it seems unlikely that many fighters will want to wait around.
This is particularly bad news for Danis, who is only a few weeks removed from also losing out on a lucrative boxing match with YouTube star KSI. This makes it a double-blow for Danis recently and he has gone from having a pretty full schedule to suddenly being wide open. Given that neither fight falling through was anything to do with him, it seems likely that he might want to book something new instead. He has no shortage of potential opponents if he does want to get back in action soon, and bare-knuckle king Mike Perry appears to be first on the list.
